Yesterday at a special ceremony held within the framework of the XIII International Forum “Transport Week 2019”, Gagarin airport (part of the Airports of Regions) holding was celebrated by the professional jury of the VI National Traffic Formula Awards for achievements in transport and infrastructure as the best infrastructure project in 2019. The prize was handed to the Airports of Regions holding which delivered the largest infrastructure project of building a new airport in Saratov Region, within a public-private partnership. The total construction budget amounted to RUB 22 billion, including RUB 8.2 billion of private equity funds.
Not only has the new air hub infrastructure enabled services for modern aircraft types, including the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families and thereby attracting new airlines; it has also been instrumental in expanding the geography of flights. It should be noted that the passenger traffic at Gagarin airport demonstrates robust growth dynamics and has already exceeded the load of Saratov’s old airport (Central) by 26% year-on-year.
