The passenger traffic at the new Gagarin airport from 20 August to 31 December 2019 exceeded the load of the old Saratov airport (Central) for a similar period of 2018 by 46%.
In 2019 seven airlines performed regular flights from Gagarin airport on six routes. The total of 2,601 takeoff and landing operations were accomplished on inland and international flights while cargo and mail volumes handled since the airport was opened in 2019 exceeded 377 tonnes.
We should remind that the international airport of Saratov built in the greenfield commenced its operations in August 2019. The infrastructure of Gagarin enables services to be provided for comfortable planes, such as most commonly used Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft families which could not be engaged for flights to Saratov before, because of the old airport’s infrastructural restrictions.
Construction on the international airport Gagarin is the biggest infrastructure project of national civil aviation in 2019 that was delivered within the framework of the public-private partnership between the Russian government, Saratov Region government and Airports of Regions holding.
