Overall 35 applications were submitted. The jury named 10 prize-winners and 11 winners of the competition. The Investor of the Year distinction went to the project Construction of Gagarin Terminal, delivered by SaeAero-Invest, JSC.
“We launched the new international airport project of Saratov in a green field. Now we can state with confidence that the new air hub has not only become the biggest infrastructure investment project in the region. Gagarin is a comfortable ‘air gate’ receiving modern aircraft types, attracting new airlines and creating ample conditions for the air travel,” underlined Executive Director of Gagarin Airport Aleksey Zhamkin in his address.
Gagarin international airport is the biggest infrastructure project of Saratov Region, implemented in 2019 within the framework of a public-private partnership involving the Government of Russia, the government of Saratov Region as well as the Airports of Regions holding.
The new international airport’s infrastructure is friendly towards the most widespread types of modern aircraft, including Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, thus lifting the earlier existing infrastructural restrictions on the services for civil aviation in Saratov Region. About 700 new jobs have been created in the airport. The passenger traffic at Gagarin exceeded the load of the old Saratov airport (Central) during the first three months of its operations since 20 August 2019 by 26% year-on-year.
