Since 20 August 2019 the passenger traffic at the new Gagarin airport exceeded that at the old Saratov airport (Central) for a similar period by 48%.
Overall since the opening of the airport 3,391 takeoff and landing operations have been performed within domestic and international flights while the total weight of cargo and mail handled has exceeded 520 tonnes.
The infrastructure of Gagarin airport built from scratch allows confident growth dynamics and services to be provided for modern comfortable aircrafts Boeing 737-800, Airbus A320, Embraer-170/190 and SukhoiSuperjet 100.
In 2019 seven airlines performed regular flights from Gagarin airport on six routes. At present you may fly from Saratov to three biggest airports of the Moscow air hub. Thus Aeroflot and NordWind fly to Sheremetyevo airport; S7 Airlines – to Domodedovo airport, whereas Pobeda flies to Vnukovo.
In addition to the Moscow area, low cost Pobeda also flies to Saint-Petersburg; IrAero flies to Yekaterinburg, Sochi and Mineralnye Vody, while Utair flies to Surgut.
It should be reminded that construction on an international airport in the city of Saratov is the biggest infrastructure project delivered in national civil aviation last year, which was celebrated by the expert community. Thus Gagarin airport was named the best infrastructure project of 2019 by the jury of the Sixth National Traffic Formula Awards for achievements in transportation and transport infrastructure within the framework of the Third International Transport Week 2019 Forum. In 2020 Gagarin airport became a prize-winner of the Sixth National Air Gates of Russia Award, winning in two categories as Best Innovative Project and Best Investment Project of the Year.
