The VIP lounge of Gagarin international airport (managed by the Airports of Regions MC) was named the winner of prestigious world architecture Best of Year Awards 2020 in the Transport nomination. The awarding ceremony has been held online in New York today. Gagarin airport’s VIP lounge designed by VOX Architects is the only Russian project that made it into the finals.
In the finals Gagarin airport’s VIP lounge competed with architectural projects such as the lounge area of Seattle international airport as well as with the design and architectural solutions for Nanaimo airport in British Columbia, Canada.
The award won is the result of a unique approach used by Airports of Regions MC to the fashioning of comfortable and trendy spaces in air hubs.
Best of Year Awards is the annual international distinction instituted by Interior Design Magazine that celebrates most significant innovative works in architecture and design from all over the world in more than 100 categories. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Best of Year Awards.
We should remind that earlier this year the VIP lounge of Gagarin airport was awarded the prestigious Best Office Awards 2020 for non-residential architecture, Business Space in Public Interior nomination. In 2014 Best Office Awards went to Koltsovo airport (Yekaterinburg), in 2015 – to Kurumoch (Samara), in 2017 – to Strigino (Nizhny Novgorod), and in 2018 – to Platov airport (Rostov-on-Don).
Construction on a new international airport in the city of Saratov is the biggest infrastructure project of Russian civil aviation, delivered in 2019. The project has been part of a public-private partnership scheme with Russian government, Saratov Region’s government, and Airports of Regions Management Company involved.
