Vladimir Putin Visits Gagarin Airport

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Gagarin international airport (part of the Airports of Regions holding) today, to get acquainted with its infrastructure. The head of state has visited the main passenger service zones in the terminal of the new airport in Saratov.
The Russian President’s tour of the passenger terminal was guided by Renova Group Board Chairman Viktor Vekselberg and CEO Airports of Regions Management Company Evgeny Chudnovsky. Vladimir Putin was shown the domestic flights arrival lounge, passenger check-in zone, preflight inspection sector as well as the domestic flights departure lounge.
In the course of the terminal examination the head of state was also treated to elements of a unique multimedia exposition dedicated to space research and the personality of Yuri Gagarin. Director General of the state historic and cultural museum preserve Moscow Kremlin – daughter of the planet’s first astronaut Elena Gagarina – as well as the world’s first woman astronaut and Hero of the Soviet Union Valentina Tereshkova also took part in the exposition presentation.
In addition to the tour, President Putin was shown new projects delivered by the Airports of Regions holding: construction of the passenger terminal in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky as well as the complex overhaul of airfield and airport infrastructure in the city of Novy Urengoy.
Construction of an international airport in the city of Saratov is the biggest infrastructure project of the national civil aviation in 2019. The project was part of the public-private partnership, with Russian government, Saratov Region’s government and Airports of Regions Management Company participating. The new airport’s total construction budget came to RUB 22 billion, including RUB 8.2 billion of private equity funds. All flights were relocated from the old airport Central to the new airport Gagarin on 20 August 2019, starting at 08:00 of the local time. Since its opening Gagarin has already provided its services for 16,000 passengers as well as 164 domestic and international flights.
