A permanent air cargo-passenger multilateral national border checkpoint has opened at Gagarin international airport (part of the Airports of Regions holding).
The order signed by Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich has been published today, October 13, on the official legal information resource; it comes into force on 24 October 2020.
The national border checkpoint compliance with the design documentation for construction as well as the availability of respective equipment and technological outfit of the buildings, necessary for organizing the border, customs and other types of inspection, has been corroborated by an interdepartmental commission’s certificate dated 9 July 2020.
It should be noted that until recently the national border checkpoint at Gagarin international airport had operated sporadically, being unable to cater to more than one international flight a week, apart from the flights of small business aircrafts which were serviced on an irregular basis.
It should also be mentioned that the new air hub Gagarin in Saratov was built as part of a public-private partnership with Russian Transport Ministry, Federal Air Transport Agency, Saratov Region’s government and Airports of Regions Management Company involved. The Gagarin airport construction project was special not only in that the airport infrastructure was installed “from scratch”, but also in that a new airport operator was founded (SarAero-Invest, JSC) to ensure the procurement of all machinery, equipment and specialized vehicles needed to bolster the airport’s operations. The same operator formed the new enterprise’s payroll.
